Actually in the UK the system changes every year and its based on percentages, only a certain % will get an A*. Even if they get 99/100, if loads of people get 100/100 then their grade will be worse off.
for example only 2% of students taking the exam can get an A so its literally based on how smart the rest of your year is, in comparison to you.
